Très tristes nouvelles ce matin : Tony Snow est mort. Il avait 53 ans.
Tony Snow, l'ancien représentant de presse de la Maison Blanche et qui charma des millions de personnes à Fox News comme à la radio, est mort après un long combat contre le cancer.

Ci-dessous le message du Président George W.Bush :

"Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend, Tony Snow. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their children, Kendall, Robbie, and Kristi. The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character.
Tony was one of our Nation’s finest writers and commentators. He earned a loyal following with incisive radio and television broadcasts. He was a gifted speechwriter who served in my father’s Administration. And I was thrilled when he agreed to return to the White House to serve as my Press Secretary. It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day. He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work. His colleagues will cherish memories of his energetic personality and relentless good humor.
All of us here at the White House will miss Tony, as will the millions of Americans he inspired with his brave struggle against cancer. One of the things that sustained Tony Snow was his faith – and Laura and I join people across our country in praying that this good man has now found comfort in the arms of his Creator."

So sad news this morning. Tony Snow has died.
Tony Snow, the former White House press secretary and who charmed millions as a FOX News television and radio host, has died after a long bout with cancer.

Read below President George W. Bush's message :

Comme chaque année à la Maison Blanche, cette période de Noël est l'occasion de journées de liesse et de festivités.
Like every year at the White House, this Christmas Holiday is the opportunity for days of rejoice and festivities.

Là c'était le 29 Novembre et la First Lady Laura Bush, présentait à la Presse les décorations de cette année : elle discute avec le Chef Cristeta Comerford dans la Grande Salle-à-manger de la Maison Blanche, le thème choisi cette année étant "Holiday in the National Parks".

Là le Président et Laura Bush arrivent à "the Ellipse tree lighting ceremony". C'est le premier évènement de la saison de Noël à la Maison Blanche. La présentation officielle de l'arbre de Noël remonte à 1966 durant l'administration Johnson.

-TONY SNOW le retour-

Encore un grand monsieur !
Tony Snow est un journaliste et le porte-parole de la Maison-Blanche depuis mai 2006. Cet homme flegmatique, souriant, cool et compétent a dû, ces dernières semaines se retirer un peu de la vie publique pour traiter une reprise de cancer.

Ici aux US, il n'y a pas la dissimulation permanente et systématique qui caractérise la vie publique ( ... et privée ) française. Et cette nouvelle avait secoué la Maison Blanche et la Presse américaine.

Mais Tony Snow avec beaucoup de simplicité est réapparu dernièrement, mince, élégant et magnifique, lors du dîner annuel de l'Association des Correspondants de la Maison Blanche, soirée qui permet en général à tous ces gens de la presse américaine en grande partie gauchiste de tirer à boulets rouges sur le Président et ses proches. Celui-ci étant tenu de participer lui aussi aux plaisanteries de rigueur.

Mais cette année le Président Bush a coupé court, et a annoncé :" A la lumière de la tragédie de cette semaine à Virginia Tech, j'ai décidé de ne pas faire de plaisanterie ".

Et Tony Snow le porte-parole de la Maison Blanche a eu un accueil très chaleureux quand il a rejoint George W. Bush, à la table principale. Le Président, très fier de son porte-parole, a ajouté : " Mon message à Tony est : " Reste fort. Beaucoup de personnes t'aiment et se soucient de toi et prieront pour toi ".



Tony Snow remerciant le public, a promis de retourner très bientôt sur le podium du briefing habituel de la Maison Blanche pour se mesurer aux représentants de la presse. " Nous allons encore nous amuser, faites-moi confiance " a-t-il dit.

Et nous en sommes bien contents nous aussi. Tous nos voeux de complète guérison l'accompagnent.

TONY SNOW : THE RETURN

Another important figure ! Tony Snow is a journalist and the spokesman of the White House since May 2006. This phlegmatic, smiling, cool and qualified man had to withdraw a little from public life these last weeks to treat a resumption of cancer.
Here in the US, you don't have the permanent and systematic dissimulation which characterizes French public life (... and private life too). And this news had shaken the White House and the American Press.
But Tony Snow with much of simplicity, reappeared lately, thin, elegant and looking just splendid, at the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner, an evening which in general allows all the people of the American press, mainly leftist, to shoot with red bullets on the President and his close relatives, the President being expected to also take part in the jokes.
But this year President Bush cut it short, and announced: " In the light of the tragedy of this week at Virginia Tech, I decided not to make a joke ".
And Tony Snow, the spokesman of the White House had a very cordial reception when he joined George W. Bush, at the 1st table. The President, very proud of his spokesman, added: "My message to Tony is: "Remain strong. Many people love you, are concerned for you and will pray for you ".
Tony Snow, thanking the audience with a hand gesture, promised to return to the White House briefing podium soon, to measure himself to the representatives of the press: "We will have this entertainment again, trust me", he said. And we are quite happy with that too.
Let all our wishes of complete recovery accompany him.

Les oeufs de Paques a la Maison Blanche

Pour Pâques, il se produit un évènement étonnant à la Maison Blanche.
Bien sûr il y a la traditionnelle course aux oeufs de Pâques qui a lieu sur une des grandes pelouses de la Maison Blanche, avec les habituelles friandises, les divertissements et spectacles divers avec des présentations d'animaux, des auteurs et illustrateurs de livres pour enfants, des personnages traditionnels grandeur nature qui se mêlent à la foule des enfants, et y compris et surtout la chasse aux oeufs cachés un peu partout pour tous les enfants de moins de sept ans. Mais ce n'est pas tout.

Surtout chaque année, pour Pâques, des artistes locaux créent des oeufs décorés, qui représentent chacun, un des 50 Etats américains, plus le District de Colombia ( Washington DC ). Et ces oeufs sont tous envoyés à la Maison Blanche pour y être exposés. Cette tradition a commencé en 1994 où chaque état avait envoyé un oeuf décoré à la Maison Blanche et tous ces oeufs réunis avaient fait l'objet d'une exposition spéciale.
Et depuis c'est devenu la tradition et chaque année, la collection, coordonnée très sérieusement par l'American Egg Board, est ainsi exposée. Et les artistes eux-mêmes votent pour désigner celui qui sera chargé de présenter l'oeuf commemoratif de l'année suivante et qui sera présenté au Président et à la First Lady.
Je vous montre ci-dessous un extrait de l'exposition. Il faut reconnaitre que certains oeufs sont particulièrement réussis.

EASTER EGGS AT THE WHITE HOUSE

A surprising event takes place at the White house during Easter.
Of course, the traditional Easter Eggs Race on one of the large lawns of the White House will take place, with the usual candy, entertainment and several animal shows. But also authors and children's books, traditional characters in real-life scale who mingle with the kids, and last but not least the hunt for the eggs hidden seemingly everywhere for all children age seven or less. But that's not all.

Every year, local artists create decorated eggs representing each and every of the 50 states, and the District of Columbia (Washington DC). And all these eggs are sent to the White House to be exposed. This tradition started in 1994, when every state had sent one decorated egg to the White house and the whole collection had been put on display in a special exposition.
Since then it has become a tradition and every year the collection is displayed, very officially coordinated by the American Egg Board. And the artists themselves vote for who will present the commemorative egg the following year that will be presented to the President and the First Lady.
