Il faut voyager. Rien ne remplace le contact direct avec une réalité où se mêlent souvent une infinité de facteurs que la lecture de textes ne peut restituer. J’ai plusieurs fois fait le tour du monde. J’ai traversé des contrées que je ne pourrais plus traverser aujourd’hui, Iran ou Afghanistan, par exemple. Mes goûts personnels m’ont souvent conduit aux États-Unis où, malgré l’arrivée au pouvoir de Barack Obama, je retournerai.

Je ne reste pas longtemps dans les zones bobos, car je sais à satiété comment on y vit, comment on y pense et, très vite, le trop plein m’atteint, et avec lui une forme de nausée. Malgré les divergences, j’ai des amis de trente ans à New York et à San Francisco. Quand je les vois, j’essaie de parler d’autre chose que de politique, d’économie ou de géopolitique ou, si le sujet vient dans la conversation, je me garde de les contredire, sachant que je perdrais mon temps. Je m’efforce de voir ce qu’il y a en eux de bon et d’humain, malgré tout. Puis je pars vers l’Amérique intérieure, en laquelle je me reconnais davantage.

Je voudrais aller en Israël plus souvent. Mon emploi du temps m’a empêché de m’y rendre depuis plusieurs années. J’y ai passé quelques jours au mois de décembre, invité par André Darmon, directeur d’« Israël magazine » pour des conférences. Au vu de l’actualité immédiate, je pense utile d’en parler ici. J’ai retrouvé en Israël une société plus moderne encore que celle que j’avais quittée lors de mon dernier séjour. Comme je l’ai dit à mes interlocuteurs, les proximités entre Israël et les États-Unis sont bien plus grandes que celles entre Israël et n’importe quel pays d’Europe, et je continue à trouver admirable ce que le peuple juif a fait, en soixante années, d’un fragment de désert hostile.

Je continue à penser que c’est cela aussi que les peuples arabes et musulmans de la région ne supportent pas et ne comprennent pas, tant la modernité a peu pénétré leur culture et leur mentalité.
Un État juif au milieu du dar el Islam, c’est insupportable.
Un État juif qui accomplit des prouesses à peine concevables, c’est plus insupportable encore.
On confierait à des Israéliens les terres de Syrie, de Jordanie ou du Sinaï égyptien, elles passeraient en quelques années du beige du désert au vert tendre de l’irrigation.
On confierait Israël à des Arabes de la région, le désert ferait rapidement son retour.
C’est particulièrement visible sur les territoires frontaliers. Au Nord, à l’extrême proximité du Liban, là où le Hezbollah réarme sous le regard bienveillant des Nations Unies (j’y étais, côté israélien, assez près pour parler avec des casques bleus et des miliciens antisémites que ne séparaient de moi que deux lignes de barbelés), des arbres fruitiers sont plantés par des Israéliens jusqu’à la ligne de démarcation. Du côté du Hezbollahland, rien, sinon des panneaux à la gloire des « martyrs », c’est-à-dire des assassins.
La route qui sépare la Jordanie de la Judée-Samarie est intéressante. On y roule en sécurité parce qu’Israël veille et, comme aux « checkpoints », cette sécurité va de pair avec peu de contrôles militaires au sol : la surveillance électronique est là, invisible pour qui n’a pas d’intentions criminelles. Les seules maisons salubres sont israéliennes, tandis que les maisons arabes sont des taudis.
Maisons et terres cultivées israéliennes sont des « colonies », écrit-on dans la presse européenne, autrement dit des enclaves de civilisation. La « communauté internationale » voudrait que ces enclaves de civilisation disparaissent et laissent place à rocaille et taudis qui seraient « l’État palestinien » : cela permettrait de garnir les comptes en Suisse de chefs de gangs tels que Mahmoud Abbas. Cela ferait disparaître ces traces, sans doute obscènes pour des yeux décadents, de progrès.

L’étape suivante serait vraisemblablement la submersion d’Israël par la barbarie djihadiste. Israël ne laissera pas faire, comme le montrent les opérations actuelles contre le Hamas à Gaza. Si les peuples arabes de la région n’avaient pas l’esprit détraqué par le fanatisme, ils voudraient une vraie paix pour profiter, par la production et l’échange, de la prospérité créée par Israël. Si les politiciens occidentaux n’avaient pas l’esprit rongé par la lâcheté et la soumission, ils inciteraient eux-mêmes à une évolution en ce sens…

One must really travel. Nothing substitutes for the direct contact with reality where an infinity of factors often intermingle, which the mere reading of texts cannot restore. I have travelled around the world several times. I crossed regions which I could not cross any more today, like Iran or Afghanistan, for example. My personal tastes often led me to the United States where, in spite of the come to power of Barack Obama, I will return.

I do not remain a long time in the "bobo" rings because I know more than enough how one lives there, how one thinks there, and very quickly an "overflow" kind of feeling reaches me, and with it a type of nausea. In spite of the differences, I have some thirty year old friends in New York and San Francisco. When I see them, I try to speak about everything except politics, economy or geopolitics. Or, if the subject does come in the conversation, I take care not to contradict them, knowing that I would waste my time. I strive to see what good and human there is in them, despite everything. Then I leave towards inner America, in which I recognize myself more.

I would like to go more often to Israel. My timetable has prevented me from returning there for several years. I just spent a few days there in December, invited to speak at conferences by André Darmon, director of “Israel magazine”. Given the very recent events, I think it's useful to speak about it here. I found in Israel an even more modern society than the one I had left after my last stay. As I said to my interlocutors, the proximities between Israel and the United States are much larger than those between Israel and any country of Europe, and I continue to find admirable what the Jewish people made, in sixty years, out of a fragment of hostile desert.

I continue to think that this is also what the Arab and Moslem people of the area find insufferable and incomprehensible, since so little modernity has penetrated their culture and their mentality.
A Jewish State in the middle of "dar el Islam", is simply unbearable.
A Jewish State which achieves hardly conceivable prowesses, is even more unbearable..

If one would entrust to Israelis the land of Syria, Jordan or the Egyptian Sinai, they would in a few years turn it from the beige of the desert to the tender green of irrigation. If one would entrust Israel to Arabs of the area, the desert would make a quick return.
It is particularly obvious on the territories at the frontier. Up North, with the extreme proximity of Lebanon, where Hezbollah rearms under the benevolent glance of the United Nations (I was there, on the Israeli side, so close I could nearly speak with the blue helmets and the anti-semite militia-men that only two lines of barbed wires separated from me), fruit trees are planted by Israelis to the line of demarcation. On Hezbollah-land, nothing, except billboards to the glory of the “martyrs”, i.e. the assassins.
The road which separates Jordan from Judaea-Samarie is interesting. One can drive there safely because Israel takes care of it and, just as at the “checkpoints”, this safety goes hand in hand with few military controls on the ground: electronic monitoring is everywhere, invisible there for those who have no criminal intentions. The only salubrious houses are Israeli, while the Arab houses are slums. Israeli houses and cultivated grounds are “colonies”, one can read in tge European press, in other words islands of civilization. The “international community” would like to see these enclaves of civilization disappear and leave room to rubble and slums, which would be “the Palestinian State”: that would make it possible to fill the Swiss accounts of gang leaders like Mahmoud Abbas. That would make these traces of progress disappear, undoubtedly obscene for decadent eyes.

The following stage would probably be the immersion of Israel by djihadist cruelty. But Israel will not let this happen, as the current operations against Hamas in Gaza are showing us. If the Arab people of the area did not have their minds unhinged by fanaticism, they would like a true peace, to profit by production and exchange, of the prosperity created by Israel. And if Western politicians did not have their spirit corroded by cowardice and submission, they would themselves encourage an evolution in that direction…

Au cimetière d'Arlington, dès le jeudi avant le Memorial Day, un drapeau est placé sur chaque tombe ( environ 300 000 ), par les soldats de la Old Guard.
Et ces soldats monteront la garde les trois jours suivants, pour être sûrs que les drapeaux ne seront pas touchés.
At Arlington, a flag is placed on each grave ( almost 300,000 ) on Thursday before Memorial Day by the Soldiers of the Old Guard.
These soldiers then stand guard for the next three days to make sure the flags are not disturbed.

C'est la panique à Téhéran

Comme au bon vieux temps de la guerre froide entre l'Occident et les soviétiques, un général iranien Ali Reda Asghari, qui a "disparu dans la nature", semble en fait, avoir opté pour l'Amérique.
En effet, ce général Asghari a occupé des postes stratégiques en Iran, en particulier dans les années 90, où il a été en charge des programmes de fabrication des missiles de courte et moyenne portée ( Fajr, Zelzal, Nazeat ) au ministère des industries et où en 1996 et 1997, il a été chargé d'achats clandestins de certains composants nucléaires. A cette époque déjà, il se rendait régulièrement en Russie, en Chine, en Corée du Nord et en Asie de Sud Est.

Il a semble-t-il fondé le Hezbollah et organisé tout son appareil militaire en relation directe avec les Gardiens de la Révolution. Il a donc été le conseiller logistique du ministre de la Défense jusqu’en 2005 et à ce titre, il est le détenteur d’importants secrets militaires de la République islamique.

Or ce général qui a disparu, il semblerait bien qu'il ait soigneusement préparé son "départ", et tout d'abord en mettant sa famille à l'abri : en effet, en cas de défection d'un agent du régime iranien, tous les membres de sa famille ( femme et enfants ) sont arrêtés et torturés afin d'obtenir des informations et ensuite ils sont éliminés.
Par ailleurs, il faut savoir qu'en Iran les personnalités de haut rang et en particulier ceux qui ont accès à des dossiers confidentiels doivent obtenir une autorisation officielle de quitter le territoire pour tout déplacement à l'étranger.
Cette autorisation il l'avait obtenue, pour effectuer un achat d'armes à Damas pour un déplacement prévu de dix jours. Et selon une "source" iranienne, il a fait partir sa famille deux jours plus tôt, et lui-même est parti pour Damas.
Au bout de quelques jours à Damas, il a envoyé un message à Téhéran pour dire que l'un de ses contacts locaux, un marchand d'armes notoire voulait le rencontrer en Turquie, à Istanbul .
Et là, l'état-major iranien des Pasdaran a mordu à l'hameçon et lui a donné carte blanche pour se rendre en Turquie : c'est même Téhéran qui lui a réservé, via son attaché militaire à l'ambassade des mollahs, une suite à l'Hôtel Continental.
À son arrivée à Istanbul, Asghari s'est plaint que cet hotel ne lui convenait pas, tout particulièrement en matière de sécurité. Il a donc changé d'hotel pour aller résider à l'Hôtel Guilan situé dans le quartier Tacsim quartier très apprécié semble-t-il des Iraniens d'Istanbul.
Installé dans sa nouvelle chambre, il a appelé une connaissance à Téhéran. Puis il a quitté sa chambre vers 18h30 ... pour tout laisser derrière lui et ne plus revenir. Il est allé tout droit frapper à la porte de l'ambassade américaine à Istanbul ...
Comme dans les romans d'espionnage !

En tout cas à l'heure actuelle, Asghari serait en de bonnes mains sur le sol américain. Et c'est un sacré coup dur pour le régime iranien.
Il semblerait qu'Asghari coopère parfaitement avec les Américains et leur livre des informations importantes sur le Hezbollah et sur les relations qui lient le parti libanais à Téhéran, puisque Asghari, lui-même Pasdaran ayant fondé le Hezbollah, a une connaissance parfaite de tous les agents en mission et de toutes les connections entre les agents du Hezbollah, de la Brigade Qods ( Pasdaran ), des informateurs et des notables qui les protègent.
Il est probable qu'il soit également au courant des sites de stockage des missiles et des emplacements de rampes de tir le long du Golfe Persique.
Et donc que les révélations qu’il peut faire aux Occidentaux seront déterminantes pour l’avenir du bras de fer entre l’Iran et la communauté internationale.

Et donc, à Téhéran c'est la panique. Le régime est obligé de rappeler tous les agents infiltrés depuis des années et à arrêter toutes les opérations en cours au Liban comme en Irak.
En plus en matière de propagande c'est une sacrée gifle pour Téhéran et en particulier pour le président Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, qui se voit ainsi désavoué publiquement et o combien, par un de ses plus importants généraux.
La guerre du renseignement a donc commencé, et de son issue dépend sans doute la suite que Washington pourrait réserver à son conflit avec Téhéran.

PANIC IN TEHRAN !


Just like in the good old days of the Cold War between the Western world and the Soviets, an Iranian General Ali Reda Asghari, who "vanished without a trace", seems in fact, to have crossed over to America.
Indeed, this Asghari General held strategic functions in Iran, particularly during the nineties, where he was responsible for the production schedules of short and average range missiles (Fajr, Zelzal, Nazeat) with the Ministry for Industries and in 1996 and 1997, where he was in charge of the clandestine purchases of certain nuclear components. At that time already, he went regularly to Russia, China, North Korea and South East Asia.
It seems he founded Hezbollah and organized all its military apparatus directly related to the Revolution Guards. He was thus the logistic adviser of the Minister for Defense until 2005 and for this reason holds important military secrets of the Islamic Republic.

However, this disappearing General apparently carefully prepared his "departure", first of all by putting his family away : indeed, the Iranian Way to prevent defection of an agent is to arrest and torture all the members of his family (woman and children included), in order to obtain information, before eliminating them. Moreover, it should be noted that in Iran, high ranking personalities and particularly those having access to confidential files must obtain an official authorization to leave the territory for any travel abroad. This authorization our General had obtained for a ten days journey, to carry out the purchase of weapons in Damas. And according to an Iranian "source", he arranged for his family to leave two days earlier, while he himself left for Damas. After a couple of days in Damas, he sent a message to Tehran stating that one of his local contacts, a notorious weapon merchant wanted to meet him in Turkey, in Istanbul. Once there, the Pasdaran Head quarter staff swallowed the bait and gave him carte blanche to go to Turkey: it seems Tehran itself made reservations for him at the Continental Hotel, via its military attaché at the embassy of the Mollahs. Upon arrival in Istanbul, Asghari complained that this hotel was not appropriate, particularly regarding safety matters. He thus changed hotel and went to reside at the Guilan Hotel, located in the Tacsim district, quite appreciated by Iranians in Istanbul. Once installed in his new room, he contacted an acquaintance in Tehran. Then left his room at about 6.30 PM ... leaving everything behind him and never returning. He went straight to knock on the door of the American embassy in Istanbul ...

Just like in spy novels !

In any case at the present time, Asghari would be in good hands on American ground. And this is a hard blow for the Iranians. It would seem that Asghari cooperates perfectly with the Americans and delivers important information on Hezbollah and the relations which bind it to the Lebanese party in Tehran, since Asghari, a Pasdaran himself having created the Hezbollah, has a perfect knowledge of all agents currently on mission, and of all the connections between Hezbollah agents, Brigade Qods ( Pasdaran ) agents, advisors and high ranking officials or professionals who protect them. It is likely he also communicates the current missile storage sites and launching sites along the Persian Gulf. And thus that the revelations which he can make to Westerners will determine the future of the iron arm between Iran and the international community.

At any rate, in Teheran it's panic time. The regime is forced to identify all its infiltrated agents since years and to stop all operations in progress in Lebanon and in Iraq. Moreover, as regards propaganda it is a huge blow for Tehran and president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad particularly, as he witnesses himself being repudiated publicly and O so much by one of his more important Generals. The information war has thus started, and its outcome will undoubtedly define the way Washington regards its conflict with Teheran.
