Pardi !

TEXAS INVOLVED IN THE FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

This is simply delightful ! In the midst of the French Presidential campaign, with candidates roaming across the country in each and every direction possible, when the few Overseas Departments need to be flattered, one has to wonder where on earth ... the billstickers have gone. You know, the billstickers ! The people dedicated body and soul to the Cause, who are born at the time the campaign starts, wether it be a presidential, legislative, cantonal or municipal one, and who die with it. Their usually nocturnal task consisted mainly of gluing posters and other placards, displaying "their" candidate wherever it was possible. But MOST OF ALL, to cover up or to tear appart the opposite candidate's freshly glued posters. Which could create quite a commotion obviously, when the first team retraced its' steps and gave everybody the opportunity to exchange some hard words the hard way, albeit behind the screens, and some well landed blows to be used to demonstrate that "your" candidate was the best, with the bruises and bults to prove it. From time to time even a little dead here and there, when the argument turned to fratricide.

Well, those "good old days" are dead and gone. And guess who's to blame for it all ? Well, like always, you shoud have guessed it, the A-Me-Ri-Cans ! Naturally !
Yeah well, since 2002, the political parties must glue their official posters on the metal posts placed in front of the polling stations. And they have the choice to either enlist their militants i.e volunteers, or use the services of a professional displaying company. When you know the French mentality of these days, people who are just "dying" to make an effort, especially when they're not retributed ( no living person is lazier than a Frenchman ), no wonder the political parties don't find volunteers anymore.

And who is going to profit from this lack of "braveness" (altered form of bravery) or "motivateness" (altered form of motivation) ? Our american friends of course. Even better, Americans from Texas, and I find that utterly hilarious and delightful ! Hail to Texas !
To the great satisfaction of Clear Channel France, who just won this juicy business, with about 1 million of posters to glue, i.e a big and a small one of each candidate, in front of each and every of the 85.000 polling stations: that's 3 million euros that the affiliate of the Texan company, vested in San Antonio, is going put in its pocket.
That for about 8 days of work, the thousand of billstickers which will be gathered by Clear cannel, from monday April 9th at 00h00 on, starting time of the official campaign.
Strangely, the American company had no competitors on this market. None of the other groups specialized in advertisement display, the French JCDecaux or the American Viacom, had made a offer.

And guess who is confirming this information: Jose Bove, this extreme left "nazillon" ( little nazi ), the great defender of ultra-communism, of ultra-globalization, the Mc donalds breaker and destroyer of other people's work, especially the French fields of transgenic corn. How exhilarating this is ! How exhilarating !
With a 100% of the candidates in its portfolio, the American group today holds a monopoly. For Jean-Marie Le Pen, Nicolas Sarkozy, Ségolène Royal, Dominique Voynet, José Bové, Arlette Laguiller and the others : from extreme-right to extreme-left, Clear channel has committed itself to "professionnally glue. And all political parties can rest assured they will be glued under the same condition, without any judgment of values".

When you are familiar with the French spirit, and you witness this from afar, it's incommensurably funny !

The Second Life

THE SECOND LIFE

From 1996 on and for some years, existed on the internet in France "The 2nd World", an astonishing website, a virtual world among others entirely created on Internet. Its particularity was that it was a virtual reproduction of Paris with all its districts, its principal monuments and its characteristics. And in this virtual world, one could rent an immense apartment, furnish it according to one's choice and host one's friends, each member having the possibility to represent himself as an "avatar", a personalized virtual alter-ego already very elaborate at that time.
And then "The 2nd World" fell in decrepitude.

This little idea inspired some americans who redesigned and processed it "the american way ", created "Second Life" and struck gold. Success was fast as lightning.
In January 2006, only 124 175 avatars haunted the islands of Second Life ( SL ), but one year later, the most successful and appreciated virtual world of the time being already boasts 4 600 287 members ! This tells a lot about the future of this type of online game, which opened up to the general public since 2003.
Second Life became a virtual company equipped with a true economy. The currency used is the Linden. You can obtain 250 Lindens in exchange for a dollar but also convert your Lindens into dollars. It is thus quite simply possible to grow rich while "playing". For example, constructing houses then renting them to other members or becoming the owner of a night club. The million members of SL thus exchange from 450.000 to 650.000 dollars each day. With the popularity of this game and the possibilities offered by Second Life, businesses didn't think twice to get involved. According to the game creators, several thousands of people make a living of Second Life. Some have even quit their real job to concentrate on their "virtual" work.
The Wells Fargo Bank very simply bought an island.
Toyota is testing a new model of a car: the Scion xB.
American Apparel opened a shop.
Harvard offers courses in law.
And several University Campuses and Colleges will open a branch, like the "Lasalle College" from Canada.
Fox carried out the premiere projection of X-Men 3 in SL

Reuters created a Press Branch to cover the game's news.
And let'ts not forget Intel, Amazon, Adidas ...

By the way, the French presidential elections could not escape from it, Jean-Marie Le Pen having been the first to establish himself in SL, followed by Ségolène Royal, then Nicolas Sarkozy who has an island there... Even the Head of the Department of Culture, Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabre's virtual alter-ego can be found in SL !
And Sweden will establish the first virtual embassy in the virtual world of Second Life.

Linden Lab, the Californian company who created Second Life, announces that it will deploy a voice program which will make it possible to thousands of people on-line to converse with each other constantly by using their computer's microphone and loudspeakers. The program will propose an interesting spatial audio feature, where just like in real life, people will be able to hear each other according to the distance separating them. For instance, a group of people close together in a virtual space will be able to converse normally, but as soon as distance separates the participants, even shouting will not help you. A Beta version of the program should be introduced in the game towards the end of March, and during two months thereafter feedback from the customers will be collected.
Thus an unending evolution ! Quite astonishing, isn't it ?

If you feel tempted to give it a try, beginner's instructions in English can be fond here !
