SMILE IS OF THE SEASON

Pretty little tale that I have just received.

THE CRACKED POT

An old Chinese Lady owned two large pots, both of them hanging at the end of a pole which she carried behind her neck.
One of the pots was cracked whereas the other pot was in a perfect state and always brought back a full ration of water. At the end of the long walk, from the brook towards the house, the cracked pot was but half-filled with water.
All this was carried out daily during two years and the old Lady brought back only one and a half pot of water.
The whole pot was very proud of its work, but the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfections and felt sad. It could carry out only half of the work for which it had been created.
After two years of what it perceived like a failure, one day it addressed to the old Lady, when they were close to the brook.
" I am ashamed of myself, because my crack lets water drip when we return towards the house."
The old Lady smiled :
" Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, and that there is none one the other side ? I always knew about your crack, therefore I sowed seeds of flowers on your side of the way, and each day, upon returning to the house, you sprinkled water on them. During two years, I have thus gathered superb flowers to decorate the table. Without you, being just as you are, it could not have had this beauty to decorate the house ".

Each one of us, has his/hers own lacks, cracks, his/hers faults. But they are perhaps each and every one of them what make our lives so interesting and enriching.
Therefore, all my cracked friends, have a superb day and remember to take the time to smell the flowers, with this final sublissime bouquet from Sidney, summer flowers that grow on your side of the road.

HERE COMES THE TIME OF LILIES OF THE VALLEY AGAIN

When one hears May 1st, one thinks of lily of the valley. And even more " lily of the valley amulet ". Oh yes these small bells, preferably thirteen on a shoot, must bring us happiness for at least the whole year. And I myself like this tradition which consists in arriving with these small delicate bits in ones hand, symbols of spring and revival, to show and say to those who are important to us that we care about them and that we wis them well.
And that does not date to yesterday.
Celebrating the May 1st day indeed seems to go back to the beginning of times.
In antiquity, it was on that date that navigators took again to sea, after the stormy and winter months.
Among Kelts, it was the beginning of the first half of the year of the Celtic year.
In the Middle Ages, May was the month of the plighting of troths. And at this point in time the lily of the valley appears. Still called lily of the valleys, originating in Japan, it seems that he has been present in all Europe for this time. Since, the plant with small bells always symbolized spring and one people granted virtues to an amulet with it.
But it was on May 1st, 1561 that the king Charles X officialized the happening. Having received at this date a bit of lily of the valley as an amulet, he liked the idea and decided to offer it to all the ladies of the court. It is thus he who launched this good practice ! The tradition had been born.
The flower of lily of the valley is also the flower of encounters in love. For a long time, were organized in Europe the "balls of the lily of the valley". It was besides one of the only balls of the year where parents did not have the upper word. On this day, girls got dressed with white and the boys decorated their front pocket with a bit of lily of the valley ...
For some, only the bits of lily of the valley having spontaneously and naturally 13 flowers carry happiness.
According to the language of the flowers, the lily of the valley means " return of happiness ".
Popular festival also, since 1889, is the Labour Day, in memory of the protestor movement of May 1st, 1886 of Chicago.
May 1st is celebrated in Belgium, in Luxembourg, in Germany, in Spain, in Central Europe, South Africa, Latin America, in Russia, in Japan.
In the United Kingdom, it is the first Monday of May which is celebrated.
Oddly, in the United States, "Labor Day" is celebrated the first Monday of September, and not in May, in memory of other events.
And since 1982, the lily of the valley is the national flower of Finland.
Thus in fine, let's not restrain ourselves from happiness, for the ... 365 days coming.

The Andre Rieu phenomenon

I recently viewed on W.EDU a retransmission of the concerts of André Rieu and his orchestra and I have to say I am still under the charm. Charmed from watching and hearing them, but also from realizing how much this type of Classical Music, so light and made available to all, not feeling too serious about itself though performed with extreme professionalism, brings happiness to those listening to it, lucky to experience the shows. André Rieu is a Enchanting Master, a Wizard with immense class and huge talent. Together with his orchestra, he has the ability to let all the feelings, feery and goodness music brings flow unrestrained, larga manu.
The spectators are obviously entranced and I fully understand : it's during these times of barbary and clash of cultures that we are most touched by all the beauty of our civilization, by the genius of our great Composers and all the humor, that fine string of intelligence, of a man who has managed to draw his whole crew into this beautiful adventure.

Thank you, Sir, for all the joy you are spreading and for your gratitude ...
