HERE COMES THE TIME OF LILIES OF THE VALLEY AGAIN

When one hears May 1st, one thinks of lily of the valley. And even more " lily of the valley amulet ". Oh yes these small bells, preferably thirteen on a shoot, must bring us happiness for at least the whole year. And I myself like this tradition which consists in arriving with these small delicate bits in ones hand, symbols of spring and revival, to show and say to those who are important to us that we care about them and that we wis them well.
And that does not date to yesterday.
Celebrating the May 1st day indeed seems to go back to the beginning of times.
In antiquity, it was on that date that navigators took again to sea, after the stormy and winter months.
Among Kelts, it was the beginning of the first half of the year of the Celtic year.
In the Middle Ages, May was the month of the plighting of troths. And at this point in time the lily of the valley appears. Still called lily of the valleys, originating in Japan, it seems that he has been present in all Europe for this time. Since, the plant with small bells always symbolized spring and one people granted virtues to an amulet with it.
But it was on May 1st, 1561 that the king Charles X officialized the happening. Having received at this date a bit of lily of the valley as an amulet, he liked the idea and decided to offer it to all the ladies of the court. It is thus he who launched this good practice ! The tradition had been born.
The flower of lily of the valley is also the flower of encounters in love. For a long time, were organized in Europe the "balls of the lily of the valley". It was besides one of the only balls of the year where parents did not have the upper word. On this day, girls got dressed with white and the boys decorated their front pocket with a bit of lily of the valley ...
For some, only the bits of lily of the valley having spontaneously and naturally 13 flowers carry happiness.
According to the language of the flowers, the lily of the valley means " return of happiness ".
Popular festival also, since 1889, is the Labour Day, in memory of the protestor movement of May 1st, 1886 of Chicago.
May 1st is celebrated in Belgium, in Luxembourg, in Germany, in Spain, in Central Europe, South Africa, Latin America, in Russia, in Japan.
In the United Kingdom, it is the first Monday of May which is celebrated.
Oddly, in the United States, "Labor Day" is celebrated the first Monday of September, and not in May, in memory of other events.
And since 1982, the lily of the valley is the national flower of Finland.
Thus in fine, let's not restrain ourselves from happiness, for the ... 365 days coming.
